Fire Damper

The importance of fire and smoke damper testing

In any building, safety and compliance are critical, particularly when it comes to fire prevention. Fire and smoke dampers are an integral part of a building’s passive fire protection system, designed to prevent the spread of fire and smoke through ventilation and ductwork. Regular testing and maintenance of said dampers are not only essential for ensuring occupant safety but are also a legal requirement under UK Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and BS 9999:2017.

At ph Water & Air Technologies we have been proactively engaging with clients to ensure that they understand the importance around their legal duties and obligations, in particular the new primary legislation (Building Safety Act 2022) and the defined specific National Occupational Standards for fire dampers and smoke control dampers (BSEFSD). On the 1st of October 2023,

The Building Regulations, (Amendment) (England) 2023 came into force, which changed The Building Regulations 2010 (Amendment Part 2A01/10/2023) and stresses the importance of competence for all individuals and contractors involved in any building work or any design work to be equipped with the skills, knowledge, experience and behaviours to fulfil the duties of a contractor or designer, as the case may be, under these Regulations in relation to the work.
